What are the Reasons of Hallux Valgus?
Many problems seen in the feet are excessive or unbalanced pressure and friction. The front of the foot is made up of hard thin bones surrounded by thin soft tissue.
Feet carries the weight of the entire body every day all life long and yet it is inserted into hard shoes and the skin and soft tissues are pressed between hard bone and hard shoe. When high heel shoes are worn 70-90% of the body weight is on the joint between the toe and the metatarsal bone right above it.
The swelling called bunion also occurs here. A small protrusion or swelling on the bones worsens the situation, creating a vicious circle. To relief the pain the pressure shoud be diminished. This is done either by modifying the shoes or surgically correcting the protrusion and defect.
